OSS Smokin the Sound from atop an aft cabin

While walking down the dock to see a smaller version of the same boat I own, I was invited aboard a 46 aft cabin yacht which had some very nice people on board watching the races. they even let me get up on top of the roof of the boat to get a better camera angle on the races. Thank YOU!

OSS Smokin the Sound from the gunnel of an aft cabin

I was trying to get a better view out on the break wall as you see in front of me but the boats came around so quick this time I had to try to capture what I could from where I was standing on the gunnel of the side of this boat I was on.

Duce Twisted Rods racing by at OSS Smokin the Sound

Here was the previous Hulk boat now known as the Duce twisted rods boat making it around turn 1 from the break wall. This was a pretty flat day as far as the water was concerned. but with that barrier Island out there, I'd have guessed as much anyway.

Here's a good example of how the cat's sound with the outboards on the back as opposed to the inboards with the massive v-8 engines which are a bit faster.

These boats kicked ass! It's a totally different world in these cat boats! However the outboard boats a so much quieter and don't really sound so much like race boats. But they're still quite cool!

My first look at the IRBBA Winter Games Friday Night

Here's a quick look around the Holidome at the Grand Hotel in Peoria. This is an amazing party of all BOATERS! These people know how to throw a party! Next year I'm going to go and stay the entire weekend!

Lady with the Corona LED Shirt

Each Boat or Yacht club at the winter games books a room, removes all the bedding and furniture, and decorates the room according to a theme. This years theme was all about Popular TV Shows. I'm not sure what this room was about but it was kind of like a happy days show or something.

Saturday morning at the IRBBA Event Looking around the Holidome

On Saturday morning or rather early afternoon I decided to get a good look around with the holidome all lit up during the day. This place was pretty jam packed. And this wasn't much of half the people that would be there on this day!

Letting Bobo the Turtle go Free!

We were just about ready to leave, and get in the car to drive home after the weekend and we saw this little turtle in the parking lot next to the curb trying to get back to the wild or so we assumed. So we put him in a bucket and released him back into the river. My daughter named him Bobo and even declared that we loved him!? She's so funny. See Bobo for yourself!

Here's the compiled Michigan City Powerboat Races and pictures video. This is without any background music. What you hear is what you get. There were only a few clips that I left out due to swearing. On our way to the races we almost turned back due to the weather. The skies opened up for a beautiful afternoon but closer to chicago on our way back it got nasty again. So much that we had to hide in US Steel's inlet. Enjoy!

Boating Combined with Sun, Sand, and Water in Sarasota

Boats, Sun, sand and water are the things Sarasota has lots of, and not all Sarasota beaches are the same. There are six islands in Sarasota's extensive shoreline, revealing its own kind of sandy beach texture, recreational hot spot options and naturally beautiful people. Don't worry, you don't have to choose just one.

Named number one in the world by a great many beach experts, Siesta Key's beaches are the beach standard for white sandy beaches. A long stretch of white sand which won't burn your feet and is cool to the touch run along the waters of the Gulf at Siesta Key's shore, perfect for sandcastles, long walks, sunbathing or a soft place to curl up under the sun for a nap. Although smaller than Siesta Key, Lido Key is a great big variety into a compact area. The Lido Key's north end features tan beaches packed with shells and a nearby a public park, with nature trails.

Head south and you'll find another beach that is similar to Siesta Key Beach with white sands and many recreational opportunities. On the island's southern tip is South Lido Park, bordered by Sarasota Bay on the east, Big Pass to the south, and the Gulf of Mexico to the west. There, boaters drop anchor in the calm waters of the pass to come ashore and picnic in the park or enjoy the waves crashing on south Lido's Gulf side beaches.

Longboat Key is a more private beachfront community than many areas of Sarasota, geared more to people staying at the island's fabulous resorts than to casual visitors. Still, Longboat's world-class dining scene draws people from all over.

Venice Beach is one of the best places in the world to find shark's teeth, easily sifted from the sand and shells by people of all ages. (Don't worry; these pointy, triangular fossils -- naturally shed by sharks over their lifetime -- are due to a quirk of ocean currents, not sharks off the coast.) There's also a massive fishing pier that extends into the Gulf, as well as dining options overlooking the beach.

Also in Venice is Caspersen Beach -- easily the largest in Sarasota -- featuring an unbroken vista of rolling dunes as far as the eye can see. Even your furry friends can get in on the action at Brohard Paw Park, a Venice beach where dogs can frolic in the surf and dig to their hearts' content.

Casey Key is regarded as a private refuge studded with multi-million dollar homes, including one belonging to famed author Stephen King. That privacy has its advantages for visitors, as well. Casey Key's public beaches -- including North Jetty Park and Nokomis Beach -- feel like a burst of old Florida. Each Casey Key beach is a cozy nook packed with amenities without the hassle of crowds or development.

The beaches on Manasota Key off the coast of Englewood in southern Sarasota are hidden gems. Even the two most popular beaches on the island -- Manasota Beach and Englewood Beach -- are rarely crowded. But Blind Pass Beach and Stump Pass Beach are so unknown you can pretend to be stranded on a deserted island. At least until it's time to drive into Englewood for dinner, that is.

No matter where you're staying, or what your particular beach personality is, Sarasota's sandy shores offer enough options to satisfy even the most exacting beachcomber.

Since 1938, the Rivolta name has been synonymous with design excellence, sweeping from land to sea as the companies of the Rivolta group bring innovative and responsible development to a new generation of products.

From the late 1940s and 1950s when Renzo Rivolta senior introduced stylish motor scooters and energy-efficient automobiles to post-war italy, through the production of the superb sports cars of the 1960s and 1970s. through highly successful real estate development in the united states, to the current design and production of the state-of-the-art sailing and motor yachts, the Rivolta family has sought to demonstrate that efficiency and high performance are compatible with beautiful design.

The automotive world still cherishes the breakthrough city car concept of the Isetta "Bubble Car," as well as the dazzling design of the vehicles which followed: the Iso-Rivolta GT, and legendary Grifo, Lele, the first high performance four-door car, the Fidia, and Varedo automobiles developed under the direction of Renzo's son, Piero, which still stand today as examples of design taken far beyond what were considered the technological limits of their time.

Today, as Rivolta real estate developments flourish on the southwest Florida coast, Rivolta yachts, guided by Piero's son Renzo, produces a full line of motor yachts aimed at the client who seeks an innovative product with both clear references to classic design concepts and the latest in high-technology design, construction and performance.

In short, the Rivolta story today blends italian design flair with american reliability and international elegance. in their line of yachts, luxury meets high performance in a setting of unrivaled comfort. this is the present-day expression of the ideals and standards of the first Renzo Rivolta, who believed that innovation, beauty and reliability could be combined in products of lasting value.

Boats are a hard nut to crack these days with all that's going wrong with the economy.  Just tonight our president talked about doing whatever he felt was the right thing to do for our growth regardless of what the congress and house would do.  I think it's a big mistake.  First we need to reign in on responsible spending.

So when I compare our nations debt crisis, I look to my own fiscal statement and think I'm doomed to only being able to afford a row boat.  Is that wrong?  Should I spend the way that our president does?  If that's the case, i'm looking for a lender that will finance the boat or rather mega yacht pictured above here.   We're all spending a yacht budget on a row boat income these days.

Possibly what I should start looking at are sailing vessels.  Low cost for point a to b travel.  I've seen some pretty inexpensive sailboats but I'm thinking they're low because of neglect and the possible need for lots of costly repairs.

Maybe I should take a few years off from boats while the economy is bad.

Maybe that's what I'll do.

More to come later...

Sadie

Tidal Changes

A High Tide Lifts All Boats is all about getting boaters to respect the water depths of their respective areas to not damage

Today on the news a cruise ship in the Mediterranean that ran aground gouging it's side and taking on water.  The captain of which is now in jail for not only failing to do his job as a captain but also for abandoning ship before making sure that his passengers and crew were all safe.

The root of this I can't help but think that the tide had something to do with the accident.  I mean, it's a cruise ship.  They run the same course every time with every group of people I'd bet.  But rather than this being a case of running off course, I'd guess that someone didn't check the charts or time of day and the depth of the sea in this area based on the tides.  It's truly a shame to see such a loss of a ship like this.  It looked like it must have been quite a cruise liner.

No matter what size boat you operate, you have to know the waters you are in.  Simply pushing through the water blindly is just a wreck waiting to happen.

My heart goes out to the families of all the lives lost and to those whom are still missing.

1/23/2012

This whole cruise ship sinking brings me back to a time when I was just a younger guy just out of college with some at the time, silly ideas.  One such idea which I actually submitted via a patent search or invention submission company was a system for raising private yachts that had recently sunk.  Or better yet to prevent them from ever reaching the bottom of whatever body of water they were in at the time.  I never heard back from the company on my idea and don't know if anything ever came of it but I'm now wondering if my invention could be used in this situation.

The idea as it was, would be a pressurized system that detected water submersion and if so, would inflate a raft if you will that would float on the surface of the water and allow the sunken vessel to simply hover just under the waterline.  I'm not a physics expert, but if you pulled the plug of a boat, let her sink, there has to be a way to calculate the mass of air needed to keep the sunken mass from going down any further.

I figured that this would be a great invention for insurance companies to promote to their customers.  You'd just bolt in some way this pack to the bow of your vessel and another one or two to the back as well.  If submerged for a few minutes or longer, the airbags would deploy and float the vessel just under the waterline.  Then a tow boat could come and just tow it back to shore to a waiting dry dock or crane depending on the size of the boat.

If you look at the cruise ship in italy, it's on it's side in only I'd say about 60 feet of water.  Fitting the ship with some air bags on the starboard side along with the same amount on the skyward port side, would raise the ship off the bottom and possibly even right the ship.

Just think if a ship like this had my system or ida in place before this happened.  They could have prevented it from even tipping over or going this far!!!  It's kind of the same concept of having a RIB (rigid inflatable boat) emergency concept device that could be connected to the side of a ship in an emergency to prevent sinking.  Who knows, maybe it'll surface someday.

I'd Rather be on my boat

New Royal Couple drives throught the streets of London! HOW DARING!!! What's next a boat ride? I hope!

I'm sitting here at my desk and I have a tv on and just saw the new couple Prince William and Kate Middleton drive from the palace to their residence I guess.  Wow!  How gutsy was that!?  Totally exposed in a small Aston Martin Convertible!!!  I mean, anyone could have taken a pot shot at them!  All I h ave to say is that this is one cool couple.

What's your take on the this?

Pay $1.30 per gallon or $8.00 per gallon... You Decide...

Ok, now you're looking at this page, Do you want to pay $4.00, $5.00 or 8.00 per gallon?  Read this or that's where it will go!!!

We'll show you a gas boycott!
THIS IS NOT THE 'DON'T BUY' GAS FOR ONE DAY, BUT IT WILL SHOW YOU HOW WE CAN GET GAS BACK DOWN TO    $1.30 PER GALLON.

This was sent by a retired Coca Cola executive.  It came from one of his engineer buddies who retired from Halliburton.  If you are tired of the gas prices going up AND they will continue to rise this summer, take time to read this please.

Phillip Hollsworth offered this idea.

This makes MUCH MORE SENSE than the "don't buy gas on a certain day" campaign that was going around last April or May!
It's worth your consideration.  Join the resistance!!!!

I hear we are going to hit close to $ 4.00 a gallon by next summer and it might go higher!!  Want gasoline prices to come down?

We need to take some intelligent, united action.
The oil companies just laughed at that because they knew we wouldn't continue to "hurt" ourselves by refusing to buy gas.

It was more of an inconvenience to us than it was a problem for them.
BUT, whoever thought of this idea has come up with a plan that can Really work.  Please read on and join with us!

By now you're probably thinking gasoline priced at about $2.00 is super cheap.  Me too!  It is currently $3.30 at Arco and Costco for regular unleaded in Salem , Oregon and climbing every week.

Now that the oil companies and the OPEC nations have conditioned us to think that the cost of a gallon of gas is CHEAP at $2.50 - $3.25, we need to take aggressive action to teach them that BUYERS control the marketplace..not sellers.

With the price of gasoline going up more each day, we consumers need to take action.

The only way we are going to see the price of gas come down is if we hit someone in the pocketbook by not purchasing their gas!  And, we can do that WITHOUT hurting ourselves.

How?  Since we all rely on our cars, we can't just stop buying gas.

But we CAN have an impact on gas prices if we all act together to force a price war.

Here's the idea: For the rest of this year, DON'T purchase ANY gasoline from the two biggest companies (which now are one), EXXON and MOBIL.

If they are not selling any gas, they will be inclined to reduce their prices.  If they reduce their prices, the other companies will have to follow suit.

But to have an impact, we need to reach literally millions of Exxon and Mobil gas buyers.  It's really simple to do!  Now, don't  wimp out on me at this point...keep reading and I'll explain how  simple it is to reach millions of  people!!

I am sending this note to 30 people.  If each of us send it to at  least ten more (30 x 10 = 300) ...  and those 300 send it to at  least ten more (300 x 10 =  3,000)... and  so on, by the time the message reaches the sixth group of people, we  will have reached over THREE MILLION  consumers .
If those three million get excited and pass this on to ten friends each, then 30 million people will have been contacted!

If it goes one level further, you guessed it.....  THREE HUNDRED MILLION PEOPLE!!!

Again, all you have to do is send this to 10 people.  That's all!

(If you don't understand how we can reach 300 million and all you have to do is send this to 10 people...  Well, let's face it, you just aren’t a mathematician.  But I am.  So trust me on this one.

How long would all that take?  If each of us sends this e-mail out to ten more people within one day of receipt, all 300 MILLION people could conceivably be contacted within the next 8 days!

I'll bet you didn't think you and I had that much potential, did you!  Acting together we can make a difference.

You have only the rights you are willing to fight for!

Forget wax, Forget Polish, It's all about the..

I've owned my current boat for almost 4 years now and have been under the assumption that the finish is just worn out.  I've tried waxes, polishes, space age compounds, and many many hours trying to get it to shine like I wanted it to.  This week I've had a break through.  I've realized that the shine I've been searching for was always inside my boat.  What I mean is that the 12 years of sun damage has been hiding my true finish!  Call me an idiot, unexperienced, novice, whatever...  I never could understand the true nature of the boat and how it existed...  Like I said earlier, I've tried a great many things to get it to shine.  This week, this guy was walking down my dock looking at the brokerage boats and making small comments about them.   I was walking the other way when he asked which boat was mine?  I told him it was the one with all the ineffective polish on it....  He took about a split second to tell me that it looked like I needed rubbing compound!!!  Rubbing compound?  Why would I want to scrape off the last bit of good finish I had on the boat??!!  Well, what we ended up realizing after using his 3M Mechanical Rubbing Compund was that the gorgeous shine I'd been longing for was always on my boat!  It was just hidden under 12 years of oxidation and sun damage.    Within just a few seconds of using his compound the shine appeared!  It was so simple, so easy, so quick!   Faster than anything I'd ever tried.

If you think of it this way, your boat is made up of many many layers.   All the rubbing compound did was remove the bad layer to expose the good layer underneath!  Of both gelcoat and also of paint (which was faded).   The boat after 3-4 years of ownership now looks like a brand new boat!!!  I'm stunned and soo satisfied with the results.  I still need to do the back of the boat and will do that soon.  But for now the Krazy Klean does a good job to make it white.  Just not shiny.  Maybe I'll have a chance to do it in the morning before the wife and kids get up.

water/rust stains on carpeted ceiling in boat

hello fellow boaters! anyone have advice as to how to remove water/rust stains from carpet? So far, I've tried Tuff Stuff and a fabric stain remover called Awesome. Well, Tuff Stuff wasnt so Tuff and Awesome wasnt so Awesome! :(   Any ideas? Thanks! Jenn.

What is the Best Color & best brand of boat canvas? Sunbrella? Top Gun? What is your suggestion?

I'm about to buy my own walking foot sewing machine because the other one we have is not quite good enough for doing boat canvas.  I've redone boat seats, bimini tops, and other smaller projects.

I'm planning on redoing my eisenglass with all canvas to make it easier and quicker to put up and take down and also so that I'm not continually damaging the plastic eisenglass windows that always seem to yellow and get all disgusting.  Plus I can't wait to be able to just fold up the sections and put them under a seat or something.  I do also still plan on making a eisenglass set as well as a total screen set.  That way I can have all the pieces for either total privacy, bug protection but still wind and air, or protection from the rain while still being able to see or whatever.  So I'm about to buy, what kind should I get?

Yes, I know, most people who do this screw it up,  I plan on it.  For what the material cost is I can screw it up many times and still save a ton over having someone else do it.  Plus what I'm looking forward to is the pride of knowing that I did it myself.

So what do you think?

What classifies a "Ski Boat"? Any body know?

Hi,

Anybody know what classifies a "Ski Boat"?  Being in Boat Sales I get asked this question all the time.  Providing it has enough power you can "ski" behind just about any boat, right?  I look forward to your response.

Thanks, Aaron (boatbouy)

Bayliner 340 Ciera sunbridge

guess I'll talk about the 2008 bayliner 340 Ciera sunbridge.

we've been boating seriously for about 10 yrs and started out with a 2455 Ciera sunbridge. nice enough boat for a starter but danged difficult to dock in any kind of wind or current...it would spin in a new york minute...

then we moved up to a Maxum 2700SCR...we got a good deal on this one concidering it was an engineering model....it was equipted with tons of extra's...6.2ltr mpi with b3 drive....4.5 kva genny...ac/heat...winch...built in gps system...it was really a great boat and would take us anywhere in the puget sound...she was easy to drive and really an awesome boat..but with 2 dogs and us...it was tough to move around with a 9.5ft beam...

so..we started looking for a bigger boat...we looked at 4winns....searay.....maxum's...you name it....we almost went with a deal at a boat show for a used 360 searay..but it wasn't a real deal per se.....just then the bottom fell out of the industry and boating prices dropped like a stone....after about 6 mos and very frustrated at the types of boats we were looking at in the used market...my wife decided to call our good friend Mac of lake union searay in bellingham wa....he tells her he's got a really nice boat that might fit our needs.....he tells us to let him get it up to bellingham..it's presently stored in a warehouse and he'll give us a call later in the week with numbers...

well...bout later in the week Mac gives us a call and tells us the numbers for the boat is 189k..(way out of our budget)...the good news is 50k is taken right off the top cuz it's a 1 yr old boat..(note..it had 1.3hrs on each engine when we got to the marina).....plus a factory incentive of 24k...then there was our trade in....valued at 32k(not what I was looking to get but sometimes you deal some at the top to get some off the bottom..or visa versa)...anyway...we get up that weekend to bellingham and the marina....

The 340 is already in the water and both engines are idling...smooth as a sewing machine...the crew is finishing off wiping the boat down and getting things running on the boat....she's gorgeous....black and white (we vowed we'd never own a black and white boat)...but this one we fell in love with.....she's long...35 ft...11.5 ft beam....roomy as hell....the crew takes us out and the only thing I can find is that there is a slight leak from the head and the throttles are completely out of adjustment and stiff....she has twin 5.7mpi engines and b3 seacore drives....

we take her out for seatrails and before we know it we're up on plane and running with huge grins all over our faces...the wife and I are just completely taken on how she handles ....we hit about 40mph and run over wakes left and right....the boat just goes bump and we're done......she didn't even feel anything we tossed at her.....when I go out on a seatrail..I like to take some wakes to see how they will take the bumps...how she takes water over the bow or across the beam....how the trottles respond..how the engines respond to throttle inputs....how the drives react to trimming...I don't like to push the speed of the engines until she's properly broken in....

once we got back from seatrails....the wife and I couldn't get the smile off our faces as we signed the papers and the sales crews paced nervously ....we get the manuals for every system and shake hands with Mac and the store manager....

the wife and I stop at a local boat shop and pick up 2 fenders for our new boat..and then go for a well deserved lunch at anthony's on the bay in bellingham....completely shocked we got such a great deal on a brand new boat....

so far the 340 has been spectacular....we had an issue with the bellows leaking in both drives ..thus requiring both to be replaced at Bayliners expense...now we're all set to go for many yrs of great boating with a wonderfully spacious boat...

so far about the only thing I've needed to do is add a tv in the midberth and some minor repairs....but overall the boat has been absolutly amazing and comfortable....and fast....did I mention how fast she is capable of???...the sales crew told me 50 mph...I didn't believe them....last time I was out alone..I decided to see what she was capable of while heading up river...there wasn't any wind...water was flat and the current was calm.....I hit the throttles and instantly jumped up to about 40mph......then as she planed out (well below 40)...the speed of the boat started increasing quickly...hit 45mph rounding the bend....48mph as I was running out of river before hitting the no wake zone....and I hadn't even started trimming the drives up ...at 4900rpm...I was running at 48mph....yep..she'd hit 50 mph with no sweat.....

Large Italian Express Cruiser Boats

I just watched this video of the Itama 75 online and just had to share it with everyone here.

Montgomery Gentry My Town song on the stereo at the Lake Conroe Boasty Event in Texas!!!

Believe it or not, a Chicago guy who loves house music, some rap, rock and roll and never liked country music came away from a Lake Conroe Texas BOASTY event as a country music fan.  So, is this country, or western or something else all together different?  Anycase, I've never liked any country song before this.

What do you think, do you like it also?

What year and size Bayliner do you have?

What year and size is your Bayliner?  Let the forum know what you have so that if someone wants to get some advice about it, they can find you here.  Or if you've also had other years and sizes let us know that as well.

I just discovered a way to find even more boat dealers and brokers close to me.

I was on google.com in their maps section.  I put in the text boat as the search term.  It gave me boat dealers, boat brokers within view of the map area and gave each of them a listing to the left, and would allow me to click the dot so I can see who it is.  This is awesome!  There are boat brokers, and dealers within my area I never knew about!

Who knew?  am I just slow on the uptack or did everyone else already know about this on google?

Why would you put a FAKE SNAKE on a boat?

I saw a boat listing which had what looked like a 4-5 foot snake in the back of the boat.   Why would someone do that?  My first thought was to scare away birds and other animals which might try to take refuge inside the boat.  The other thought is that it was a real snake and that it got itself trapped in the back of the boat and died.

So, Is it possible to keep birds, bird droppings and other unwanted animals away from a boat if there is a possible threat of a snake on board?

I've seen a boat on my dock which looks like it has an owl mounted on the very front of the bow rail.  Is this for the same effect?

Anybody have experience with something like this?  I really hate snakes, but if it works, I'll try it!

Howdy- Steve201 here

hope to make more contributions to the site in the future...

Why they call me Popeye the Sailor Man...

Hi evereybody,

30' Hunter Sailboater here.  I'm also a powerboater.  So I like this site as well.  When i was a kid there was a kid in grade school that used to call me popeye because my dad had some old broken down wooden sailboat in the driveway.  I don't know if he was gealous or not but he helped me get the name.  I've got a small ski boat with an outboard like in my avatar but I also have a 30' hunter sailboat.  Both work well for a guy on a limited budget.

Anyways i just wanted to introduce myself since it seems that's what some others on the site are starting to do.  I've been on this site for months.  I like it.  it's fast and once you get aquinted to how this guy built it, it's very easy to make your way around.  It seems to have been built as if the builder uses the site.  I think hes dotcomd.  He seems to have the most stuff on the site and hes always the first one to post in most of the sections.

In any case, I'm Popeye the sailor man!  toot toot!!

my intro

Did you have a good time at the Lake Conroe BOASTY event?

A week ago, I was in the Houston Texas area for a BOASTY event which was an absolutly fantastic time.  Everyone started showing up early as most of them were coming from another event nearby.  We had guests from all military branches, both active and retired, both healthy and unfortunately the wounded.  All in all, it was a very complete representation of our nations military.  From the responses I got, quite everyone was just completely blown away by what we were doing.  Some thought it was a scam, some thought "how could the boaters really be doing this?"   Not even an hour into the day, the reports were of total amazement!  By dinner and the dj music which followed, most were completely satisfied that BOASTY IS REAL!

I'd love to see replies from the guests we had out there.  So let's get this thread going!

DotComd Guy

Hello,

My name is Branden, I'm the moderator and creator of this forum.  Please feel free to contact me if you have any suggestions about the site and or this forum relating to new topics, sub topics, the BOASTY event, or anything else.

Have fun and keep it clean please.  No canned ham here please!

Who else wants to head up the event in their own area?

I'm currently working on spreading the word about BOASTY in my own area as well as to try and get dealers all over the country to put up a press release about the event on their service counters, bulleting boards, bathroom doors, and anywhere else their customers will see the press release.

So should anyone else like to head up an initiative to get people involved in the BOASTY event, please reply to this forum, list any contact info you'd like anyone to have to contact you about the event.

If you would like to contact me, please feel free to contact me at 630-299-6999 for the details about the event and how you can help.

Thanks, Branden

Who uses an express cruiser as a fishing boat?

Does anybody out there use an express cruiser as a fishing boat?  How does your wife/husband like the fact that there is fishing gear all over the place.  I just can't think of where or how I'd put everything on the boat to make it a fishing boat.  I've never really liked eating fish as a kid, but it's growing on me.  The idea I have lately is to catch fish from the lake, cook it up and try it.  That way I'm not wasting 20 bucks on a fish dinner when I could have had steak instead.

Any experience with this?

Four Winns V408 performance chart very misleading!!!

I got my issue of Boating Magazine today and on the cover they showed the new Four Winns V408 on it.  Nice looking boat, nice galley, not nearly the room I'd expect to see on that boat, but the thing which prompted me to write is the performance chart...  Now, when I see a new boat, they are normally talking about half tank fuel, half water tank full, and one or two people.

This boat only had 1/8 of a tank of fuel, no water, and on top of that only two people on board.  They dare to post numbers and fuel burn numbers which I'd guess are supposed to make it look good.  But when i run, especially on long trips, I'll run with 3/4 to full tanks of fuel, full water, and with 5-8 people on board.  Do that, and then you'll have some numbers to post.

DO IT OVER BOATING MAG!  Test it again and get back to me!

Can anyone build me a complete hard top with a new windshield and all?

All the new boats have windshields that go all the way up to the hardtop and also have some center walk through windows as well.  My boat is a 1998 and the only thing that makes it look slightly dated, even though it still looks pretty darn new is the fact that it's just an express with a forward radar arch.  I've been thinking for some time about building my boat a new hardtop to mount on top of the arch kind of like a hat.  But lately, I'm thinking about building a completly new top with a windshield and all as part of it.  Anyone know a place that makes this kind of custom stuff?  I've found that it will cost between $4000 and $12000 to make just a hard top that will bolt on somehow but would never match the style of the boat.

However, If I were able to build a complete new hard top for the boat that looked like all the new hardtops on all the new boat lines coming out I think it would make my boat look just about brand new!  Most of these boats are between 500k and 900k for the same basic boat that I have and also have that hardtop look.  If it cost me $50k to make the hardtop it'd still be a great deal because I'd have the look and features of a new hardtop on an older boat that looked really cool!

So, does anyone know of a company that can get me started or do the whole thing?

Anyone seen the new Fairline Targe 44 Gran Turismo article in Boating titled "EASY STREET"?

It's a nice looking boat, but the thing is a 44 footer and just over $940,000.00!  If that's easy street, I'd like to know who is buying million dollar 40 foot boats.  I mean really!?  It must be those people who made millions in the stock market from all the high gas prices of these past few years.

What do you guys think?

1997-1999 Bayliner Avanti 4085eu

If you have the ever had the ever so rare opportunity to own a Bayliner 4085 Model lets network with each other.  I would like to find every one of them ever made.  I'm interested in the specs, engines, performance, modifications you've made, trips you've taken, the number of hours you have on your boat, and any other information you want to share about this model.  You can also include what make and model you upgraded from and what you liked so much about this boat.

Do any powerboaters think that the High Gas Prices are over?

I'm a sailboater.  I started out that way.  But last summer I would have thought that many people would have become sailboaters instead of power boaters.  What is your opinion about the economy and will the prices continue to go down at the pump as well as at the dock.  Anyone thinking about changing to sail power?

"""WHY BOSTON WHALER""""

What makes Boston Whaler® unique? Our commitment to providing you the safest, easiest to own, most exciting boats on the water. It is a calling that started in 1958 with our founder, Richard Fisher, who crafted the first twin-sponson 13-foot Whaler and then did his best to destroy it by driving up rocky rapids and cutting it in half. Turns out it was unsinkable, just like all of our models today. At Whaler, we continue to concept and build peerless designs that meet your diverse and changing needs. Only Whaler can bring you an unsinkable, legendary, innovative boat that is engineered for a lifetime of enjoyment and dependability. Only Whaler can bring you an Unsinkable Legend™.

"""Mercury Verado Outboard Series!"""""

You have to live it to believe it.
When Mercury set out to engineer the perfect outboard engine, we questioned everything: every number, every scenario, every detail. The result? Verado®, the world's most reliable and advanced propulsion system. The four-cylinder Verado -- the smaller, but equally high-performing member of the family -- delivers an amazing driving experience, superior reliability, jaw-dropping power and acceleration, and the quietest, smoothest ride ever produced by an outboard.

""Built Tough""
Verado's unique Long Bolt Engine Design provides ultimate durability by keeping the powerhead in a constant state of compression. The extra-long bolts (which pass through the bedplate, block, and cylinder) are supported by rubber dampening elements to minimize the effects of engine vibration.

""Maintenance-Free Valve Train""
Unlike many competitors' four-strokes, Verado's durable valve train stays maintenance-free for life, thanks to a unique and robust overhead cam design.

""Long-Lasting Gearcase""
The Verado gearcase was built to withstand high torque and speed, with unmatched impact protection. Also, only Mercury features Dual Water Inlets, including our patented low water pickup located on the front tip of the torpedo, ensuring a consistent flow of cooling water. The location of competitors' pickups can prevent their engines from receiving a strong flow of cooling water due to weeds or air pockets.

""Superior Corrosion Protection""
Salt demands more. That's why Mercury uses more stainless steel components than our competitors, as well as our exclusive low-copper XK 360 aluminum alloy that provides industry-leading protection against saltwater corrosion. The Verado supercharger features a marine-grade anodized aluminum housing. To top it all off, Verado is equipped with protective sacrificial anodes for superior protection at every level.

""Performance & Awesome Torque""
Verado's Supercharged System delivers the torque big boats need for immediate planing, superior mid-range acceleration, and sustained planing at lower speeds.

""Superior Combustion""
The unique Verado Charge Air Cooler teams with the supercharger to deliver superior holeshot and acceleration by cooling the compressed air before it enters the combustion chambers. In addition, the Verado injection-molded Intake Manifold increases torque and power by delivering higher levels of airflow. As a result of all this, combustion is more complete, intense, efficient, and powerful.

""Fuel Efficiency, Economy, Not Compromise""
An enhanced power train gives you increased fuel efficiency and power without sacrificing reliability. Its robust design features forged pistons, precision-machined oil dams, eccentric grooved crankshaft main bearings, a unique intake cam profile, and an enchanced PCM (power control module) calibration.

""More Air, More Power""
The intake cam provides better top-end power by significantly improving airflow, allowing the engine to produce more power while working less.

""Experience Ultimate Control""
The SmartCraft® Digital Throttle & Shift (DTS) System delivers automotive-like control, instant throttle response and smooth shifting by eliminating the hesitation of traditional mechanical cable systems. More than 50,000 hours of testing and nearly a decade of consumer use make DTS the most rigorously proven control system on the water.

""Smooth, Precise Handling
The four-cylinder Verado's optional Mercury Power Steering system can virtually eliminate the steering torque felt with competitive outboards -- while delivering a precise steering feel that's unique to Verado.

""Unbelievably Quiet""
The Verado multi-chambered Intake Sound Attenuator not only reduces overall noise by up to 14 decibels, it also tunes the engine sound to a more pleasing tone. Acoustic foam lining along the upper cowling and lower cowl absorbs high-frequency engine and driveshaft noise for a best-in-class sound rating.

Only 348 Original Hours on this Clean Boston Whaler 180 Ventura and Mercury 150 XL Four Stroke Verado Super Charged Outboard, Very Well Equipped with Mercury Smart-Craft Mulit-Function Guages, Stainless Ski Tow Tri-Pod, VHF Ship to Shore Radio, Blue Bimini Top, Blue Snap Down Bow and Cockpit Cover, Rod Holders, Livewell, 60 gallon Fuel Tank, Am/FM Stereo and 2011 Aluminum Tandem Axel Trailer for only $29,900.00...

"I was seriously looking at Hackercrafts, but I like your approach better."

"You my friend, surely know about hard work…..the Lexington is amazing!!!"

  • Built with cold molded technology using alternating layers of material totally encapsulated in epoxy (see videos on website for more info). • Best feature is the 8" Simrad touchscreen system that controls most of the boat's functions including switching, engine monitoring and gauges, GPS, sonar, navigation. It also features a built in AM/FM receiver with amp. It has video, DVD and satellite radio options. Also included with the system is a docking station for ipods, iphones, mp3, memory stick. Everything for the audio is controlled on the touchscreen. There is a premium 6-speaker Polk Audio system. This Simrad system is typically installed on yachts and is a first in the smaller pleasure boat market.
  • Start your boat with nothing more than your fingerprint - Finscan start system features 1,000 programmable fingerprints and safe mode start that automatically starts blower and monitors bilge area with a fume detector before allowing a safe start.
  • Premium interior is completely custom, featuring the best vinyl with french seams fooling everyone into believing it's real leather. The exterior also features a 5' x 5' sun deck that operates on an electric actuator. The front bucket seats have bolsters and slides.
